I think during your senior year, but check with your guidance counselor to make sure

towards the spring and early fall of next year but it depends on deadlines talk to your career counselor at school asap

It is recommended that you start your junior year, so you should start now. You can go to www.fastweb.com and look for scholarships in Canada, also check with the school, they should have scholarship programs also.

It is likely that federal student aid will not transfer to a Canadian school. Generally, if you plan to attend a university outside the country, you’re on your own in terms of financing it, unless you are able to secure smaller, private scholarships.

Bookstores and libraries have lists of private scholarships, requirements, deadlines, contacts, etc. Check out those resources and start applying in the spring of your junior year. It will be necessary that you have been accepted at your target school and that you have drawn out a plan (major, course of study).

Most private scholarhips are very specific and most are merit-based.

Federal aid on the other hand is need based.

start applying at the beginning of your senior year–there are many throughout the year so check websites and see if your school has a career center where they update local scholarship information. Right now you should start getting involved in charity (charity work helps a ton) and extracurriculars so you have a lot of great stuff to put on your resume. And be nice to your teachers, because they will be the ones writing you letters of recommendation!!!

Start with your school counselor and also check with the financial department of the universities you are interested in attending.

Okay, you are already a leg up simply by knowing where you want to go. So, contact the college where you want to go. Call the administration office and ask them for a list of scholarships and grants to be awarded. They will send you a list of all potential financial aide programs.
You should also go and see your guidance counselor at school. They always have information on scholarships and grants. You will need to brush up on your essay writing skills because there are a lot of scholarships that are won based on the strength of a good essay.

Where do I go to find these scholarships?

I live in Arkansas & I am a junior in high school. My dad is a disabled veteran on the war and I know I can get scholarships but I can’t find anything. I know I should go to my counselor but right now, they are busy doing schedule planning for the ’11-’12 school year. Do you all know anywhere else I could look or go to?

Fastweb is a great fallback, also look at the colleges that you are interested in for university-specific scholarships. I am completely paying my college and board from the scholarships my university offered me, and the federal aid I recieve.
This mostley depends on your performance in high school, but there are some you can get without revealing a low GPA. Do the research on in-state and out-of-state colleges, as well as what state/federal financial aid is available to you
PELL GRANT!!
And Do Not take a student loan.
There’s also Scholarships.com
Look around your community for smaller scholarships. $ 200 may not seem like a lot compared to $ 20,000 bill, but ten recurring scholarships of even $ 50 each means enough for a few credit hours or textbooks off your mind.

I got a scholarship for $ 500 a couple months ago. This is the page: http://gleitrade.com/ click on scholarships.

It is free money and you do not have to repay it. But they tell you that money has to be spent in your tuition fees.

Good luck.
